Back It Up

A while ago Daniel talked about the importance of backing up your work regularly if you do not want to suffer the pain and frustration of losing all your work. As I was googling for something entirely unrelated I can across a site for Blogger Tips and Tricks and a particular post on Backing up your Blog. In it they mention the Blog Collector site which allows you access to a free download you can use to completely back up your blog and save it in a pdf format. It allows you to synchronise your back up as you add more blogger entries, or to entirely re backup your blog.

I am on broadband cable and the download took a long time but I think it is pretty cool. The only thing was that the free download only let me read 63 of my posts even though the table of contents showed all 318 (sheeesh I write a lot LOL). I can upgrade, 2 levels, and at the top end - for a cost of USD 198 - it will import images and links. I am still not sure if it will import the comments, but it is a far easier (albiet a more expensive) solution to getting a backup than the Blogger way of changing your template and stripping out the text that way.

Isn't it amazing the things we learn along this road ;D

I've been looking into this too lately so thanks for the links! I found some other ones and Diet Girl mentioned one too but I can't remember the name of it right now. I still have to really investigate some more. I think it's a great idea because wouldn't you hate to lose all this!!

See you tomorrow :-)

Was that a hijack comment? Now I'm getting worried LOL.

LOL, for a girl on dial up (me), it sounds a little complicated - hopefully my blog just never dies!

That's a great idea, I'll have a look into it. I'd definitely be keen to back up my blog, nice to have a record of it somewhere.

Macs have an inbuilt function for exporting to PDF, and when I remember, I do a monthly 'backup' that way.

It's seems silly to pay for something like that.

Thanks for providing a great reminder to back up! I haven't written much yet, but I'd hate to lose what I've done. Must check up those links you mentioned.
